The word "ostentiferous" is a rare and antiquated word meaning that which produces monsters--like the sleep of reason--or brings forth strange and wondrous sights. This is the polar opposite I have long sought to Alec Grey's iconic use of eyes to illustrate illumination. Here there is the flipside of sight. I am reminded of Dante's level of Hell where seers and psychics are condemned to blindness or being so dazzled by what they see that they might as well be lind. "Heaven shows me far too much, let me close my eyes." I am reminded of Moorcock's sigil of the blood red, 8-rayed arrowed star; seal of the Lords of Chaos in his fantasy universe. This motif centers the face and radiates...the black of darkness broken only by red eyes and vampire-like running red blood from the lips. The eyes of torture victims sewn open will bleed in time as they become too damaged from exposure to work. This personifies the concept perfectly!
